Standing lamp XIII by Calabarte

    The gourd is an annual tropical vine originating in Africa and Asia. Its dried, lignified fruits are used for various decorative as well as practical purposes.

    My lamps are made from this unique fruit through a process of manual perforation and framing. Wholly natural materials and the highest quality of craftsmanship allow for unusual effects. In each interior they create a unique atmosphere, which makes it possible to enjoy light in more than just pragmatic terms.

    As the shape of the fruit is determined by nature, and the framing created manually, each lamp is one of its kind.

Ponderlon lamp

The Ponderlon lamp by Iva Dinulovic is a project that grew out of a simple observation of a construction site and various everyday uses of physics that are often overlooked. The easy to assemble, bare-bones design consists of very basic materials including pine, rope, card, and steel weights that ground the central piece of wood.  A great DIY piece.

Evul Todai Lighthouse Lamp

It’s not a lamp in the shape of an evil toad. It’s a lamp that mimics the behavior of todais, a.k.a. Japanese lighthouses. Prior to today, I thought that todai meant all you can eat sushi. The Evul Todai Lighthouse Lamp brings color, aroma, and motion to any space and captures the serenity and handsomeness of white Japanese lighthouses.The Evul Todai Lighthouse Lamp features:

Get ’Evul’ and decompress after a hard day’s work. The lamp helps set the mood for down time and relaxing, and maybe even a little romance. Aromatic oils are not included with the lamp, however, that gives you more license to choose the perfect scent for whatever occasion.

The Evul operates by a heat convection system that allows the lamp to run silently in typical Japanese fashion.

To add to the lamp’s specialness, it is entirely manufactured in Japan and comes in a beautiful gift box made in the same factory that produces boxes for Louis Vuitton merchandise in Japan. The white ceramic pieces of the lamp are handcrafted by Shuzan, a skilled and respected third-generation potter.

DIY Doily Pendant Lamp

This pendant lampshade comes from Swedish website Calinas. There's enough pictorial instructions to get the gist of how she made it, and the process is similar to the string pendant lamp if you'd like text directions in English.

There's a lot of intricate detail and work that goes into hand-sewing doilies, so it's great to see them out of granny's trunk and on display in fresh new ways!
